More new developments for Sherman Neighborhood

Spring always seems to be the kickoff season for new development proposals, and this year is already starting quickly.

2830 Dryden Drive: The owners of the Northside Town Center are proposing a 27-unit, multi-family apartment building at 2830 Dryden Drive. Rents would be market rate. The site is currently home to a small office building. A public meeting took place on May 28 to discuss the preliminary proposal, which included a brief outline of the site plan. The owners are just beginning this project proposal, and SNA looks forward to hearing more as plans develop.

1212 Huxley Ave: MSP Real Estate is investigating the possibility of purchasing the current Heritage Credit Union headquarters on Huxley to build a 120-unit, mixed-income housing development. This project is still in its very early stages--the purchase of the property is not yet complete. MSP plans to join the next Sherman Neighborhood Association meeting on July 1 to discuss their plan.

The new Executive Director of VSA, Christina Martin-Wright has extended a special welcome to Sherman neighbors: “(we) encourage our Sherman neighbors to gather here during Gallery Night. This studio looks amazing and we'd love to see you all here.”

When you stop by look for people wearing a blue with yellow print button “Sherman Neighbor” and you will meet someone who can tell you a bit more about the Sherman Neighborhood Association. And even get a button for yourself!

Oh, Hail No! File claims soon for last year's hail damage

Neighbor Dolores Kester brings us the following:

Just a quick “FYI,” I have been busy working on an insurance claim based on roof damage from a hailstorm last May. Did you know about that? Apparently, the storm was May 9th so if anyone is interested, the time is now as people may have only a year to file a claim with their insurance about this sort of thing to get it checked out.

Looking for an Earth Day project?

Sherman neighbors are partnering with the Friends of Hartmeyer Natural Area (which you may know as the wetland behind the Esquire Club) for a clean up this Saturday April 20 from 9am – 11am.  If you would like to help, meet on Roth Street, bring your garden gloves and wear sturdy shoes/boots. Trash bags and snacks will be provided. Help for as long as you care to stay – the cranes, bluebirds and other summer residents of the wetland will not miss the trash and  it will make one of our neighborhood green spaces look that much better. Thanks to neighbor Ginny Scholtz for getting this project going.

Sherman Neighbor Survey Results

The Sherman Neighborhood Association fielded a survey throughout the month of December to get feedback on how we are doing as an association, and what our neighbors most want to talk about.

The survey had 47 respondents when it closed on December 29, with the largest numbers of participants coming from Huxley, Kropf, and Schimgen Aves.

When asked for favorite things about living in Sherman, many people listed the diversity of our neighborhood, as well as the number of families and the friendly neighbors. We identify as being close to downtown, but still keeping a down-to-earth, homey vibe. The nearby parks and greenspace are definitely seen as an asset. Sherman Neighbors also LOVE their dogs, and for the most part their neighbors' dogs too. We also identify as walkable and bikeable, and the Northside Farmer's Market is a staple for many people.

Of four areas offered, Saftey and Crime topped neighbors' lists of topics they are most interested in tracking. Neighbors are equally interested in the development potential our neighborhood has, as well as in finding more opportunities for community social events. Sherman Neighborhood will do our best to promote information sharing and activities related to these areas in the weeks and months to come.

Thanks to all who took the time to participate in our survey! If you'd like to view and interactive dashboard of the results, click here.
